In January 2023 Accréditation Sans Frontières (ASF) and the Public Health Institute of Georgia (PHIG) formed an alliance with a common management, vision and mission. In the same month PHIG became the official representative of Accreditation Canada in Georgia.
That year, 23 Georgian facilities began international accreditation with Accreditation Canada (source: Accreditation Canada / PHIG records, 2023; accreditation.ge).
The alliance builds on a pilot carried out in 2021–22, in which more than 50 facilities voluntarily signed agreements with ASF under an adapted Georgian standard and four institutions were accredited (source: ASF / PHIG pilot records).

The alliance formalises a collaboration that had been operational since 2021. PHIG, based in Tbilisi, provides technical expertise, regional networks, and implementation capacity across the South Caucasus and Central Asia. ASF, registered in Paris and Geneva, provides internationally credible accreditation standards, a legal framework for cross-border accreditation activity, and European institutional connections.
Under the terms of the alliance, PHIG is the exclusive representative of ASF accreditation in Georgia and serves as the primary partner for ASF’s work across the South Caucasus. Georgian hospitals and healthcare facilities seeking ASF accreditation apply through PHIG, which manages the survey process using ASF’s published standards and trained local surveyors.
The Accreditation Canada partnership, formalised in January 2023, sits alongside the ASF alliance and represents a separate accreditation pathway for larger Georgian hospitals seeking internationally recognised accreditation with Canadian Accreditation International’s standards. PHIG holds the representative mandate for both programmes, giving Georgian facilities access to two internationally anchored accreditation pathways through a single local partner.
