Evidence at a glance
Consistent terminology is the foundation for teaching, research and policy in Georgian.
Part of the platform: Knowledge
The Public Health Institute of Georgia is developing the first comprehensive Georgian Public Health Dictionary: a unified, scientifically validated collection of key public health terms. It supports professionals, students, journalists and the general public with accurate, internationally aligned terminology adapted to the Georgian context.
The dictionary is led by Professor Giorgi Pkhakadze (MD, MPH, PhD) and reviewed in collaboration with national and international experts. The live dictionary — including the full A–Z browse and the term submission form — is hosted on the GMJ Newsroom.
Purpose
- Standardise Georgian public health terminology
- Ensure accurate translation of international terms
- Support education, research and media communication
- Improve public understanding of essential health concepts
About the project
The dictionary builds on the earlier ISI Glossary initiative and is now being updated and expanded by PHIG. It currently includes more than 12,500 terms, which are regularly reviewed to reflect global scientific developments.
Browse and contribute
The full dictionary — with A–Z browsing and a term submission form — is available on the GMJ Newsroom. Professionals and institutions are invited to suggest new terms or corrections to help strengthen and expand the terminology base for Georgia’s public health system.
