The Public Health Institute of Georgia wants everyone to be able to use publichealth.ge and the platforms of its network, including people who use assistive technology. This statement describes where we are and what we are doing, under Policy 57 — Disability Inclusion and Accessibility.
Standard
Our target is WCAG 2.1 level AA, the standard referenced by the EU Web Accessibility Directive.
What already works
- Text can be resized and the layout reflows on small screens.
- Headings, lists and tables are marked up semantically; pages have a single main heading.
- Charts and diagrams are SVG with titles and text labels, and every figure has a caption with its source; key numbers are also stated in the text.
- Images carry alternative text; decorative images are marked as such.
- Links are descriptive; colour is not the only carrier of meaning; contrast of body text meets AA.
- Most content is available in English and Georgian; the language of each page is declared.
- No content flashes; no autoplaying audio or video.
Known limitations (October 2026)
- Some older regulatory summary pages use layout tables that screen readers announce as data tables.
- Some PDF documents (older reports, the policy manual) are not yet tagged for screen readers; the policies themselves are available as accessible web pages.
- Interactive filters on the news and observatory pages are keyboard-operable but do not yet announce result counts to screen readers.
- Third-party platforms (course player on GMJ Academy; journal submission system) are being assessed.
Plan
Accessibility audit of every site in the network by March 2027; fixes to the limitations above in order of impact; an accessibility check added to the publication workflow; Georgian Sign Language interpretation offered at PHIG events on request.
Tell us about a barrier
