1. Purpose and scope

PHIG works in Georgian, English and French, and its audiences include Georgian citizens, diaspora, international partners and donors. This policy sets which language governs, how translations are made and marked, and how accessibility of language is ensured. Applies to the Board, the Director, staff, consultants, volunteers, experts, partners and suppliers of PHIG and all platforms of its network.

2. Policy

  1. Governing text: for policies, contracts and assessments, the language stated in the document governs; this framework’s governing text is English, with the Georgian version authoritative for matters of Georgian law; discrepancies are resolved by the Board.
  2. Public health information for the Georgian public is provided in Georgian wherever resources allow; English for the international audience; French where ASF’s work requires; other languages for migrant and refugee audiences as programmes need.
  3. Translations are made by competent translators or reviewed by one; machine translation is used only with human review and is marked; the date and version of a translation are stated.
  4. Plain language is the standard for public information; technical terms are explained; the Georgian Dictionary of Public Health provides reference terminology.
  5. Interpretation (including sign language) is provided for events where participants need it.

3. Procedures

  1. Translation register; terminology reference; review step in publication workflow.
