1. Purpose and scope

To ensure that everyone who acts for PHIG has the competence their role requires and the training that this framework and donors require, and that PHIG as a learning organisation improves. Applies to the Board, the Director, staff, consultants, volunteers, experts, partners and suppliers of PHIG and all platforms of its network.

2. Policy

  1. Competence requirements are defined for every role (Board, Director, project lead, expert, reviewer, editor, course author, finance); engagement is conditional on meeting them or a plan to.
  2. Mandatory training on induction and refreshed every two years: Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, Anti-Fraud, Whistleblowing, Safeguarding and Child Protection, PSEAH, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities; plus role-specific training (research integrity and FCOI for researchers; grant rules for project leads; OSH for all).
  3. Training records are kept per person; completion is a condition of being charged to grants or named on outputs.
  4. Continuing professional development is supported: GMJ Academy courses free to all persons acting for PHIG; conference participation within budgets; peer learning across the platforms.
  5. Lessons from evaluations, incidents and audits are turned into training and procedure updates.

3. Procedures

  1. Competence matrix; training register; annual training plan.

Every two years and when donor rules change.
