PHIG Policy Framework v1.2 · Policy 43 · Adopted 1 September 2026 · References: ASF Policy 43; EU MGA Art. 16 (ownership, protection and exploitation of results, access rights); 2 CFR 200.315 (intangible property); Berne Convention; Georgian copyright law
1. Purpose and scope
To define who owns what PHIG and its network create, how it is licensed, and how PHIG’s names and marks are protected, in a way consistent with the Open Science Policy. Applies to the Board, the Director, staff, consultants, volunteers, experts, partners and suppliers of PHIG and all platforms of its network.
2. Policy
- Works created by staff in the course of their duties belong to PHIG; works by consultants, experts and volunteers are assigned or licensed to PHIG by written agreement that preserves moral rights and attribution.
- PHIG publishes its works openly under CC BY 4.0 by default (Open Science Policy); software under an open licence; exceptions are decided by the Director with reasons.
- In EU-funded actions, results are owned per the grant agreement and consortium agreement; access rights are granted; exploitation and dissemination obligations are met; the EU’s rights are respected.
- In US-funded actions, the government’s licence to use results and data is respected; data produced is made available per the award.
- PHIG’s names, marks and domains (PHIG, GMJ, GILS, Sheni Labs, SupplementIndex and others) are registered where appropriate and used only with authorisation; use by third parties to imply endorsement is prohibited.
- Third-party material is used only under licence or exception; images follow the network’s copyright rules (free or licensed, credited, captioned).
3. Procedures
- IP clauses in all contracts; register of marks and domains.
